Graduation Requirements

Tiffin City Schools Superintendent Gary Barber along with four other Ohio school leaders were asked to join the Governor DeWine and several of his advisors to discuss proposed changes in the state’s graduation requirements and the local report card.  The Ohio Department of Education has developed a strategic plan Each Child, Our Future that was introduced in the fall of 2018.  This plan was developed to ensure that each student is challenged, prepared, and empowered by his or her future by the way of an excellent prekindergarten through grade 12 education.

The Tiffin City Schools will be partnering a national network Jobs For The Future (Pathways to Prosperity Network) to develop deeper relationships with regional business, industry and educational institutions.  Vanguard Sentinel Career Center and Terra State Community College will also be spearheading this work with the Tiffin City Schools.  There is currently no single organization in the region with the capacity to coordinate and deliver work-based learning opportunities at scale.

“For young people to see themselves living and working in our region, and for employers to see high school students as their future talent pipeline, it is critical that cross-sector stakeholders work together to map out seamless transitions from school to career success.  With the help of Jobs For The Future we will convene a committee of cross-sector leaders to articulate and co-design a vision for college and career pathways” according to Gary Barber.  The funding to support this transformation was obtained through an Expanding Opportunities for Each Child grant that was awarded to Tiffin City Schools this spring from The Ohio Department of Education.
