There's nothing wrong with a little fast food now and then. Sometimes we want our food fast because we're in a hurry. But often, the advertised image doesn't measure up to the one that we get in reality. If it did, it probably wouldn't be fast food. Eighth graders did an experiment to objectively measure the difference between what is advertised and the real product. The song is a weird '70s tune from a group called Focus. Students were asked to come up with their own definitions of love. The final activity in the unit was to write a five-paragraph essay which focused on defining love through example, negation, and function. I don't own the rights to the songs in this, but I added some endnotes. I hate using that canned YouTube music. Thanks to some oldies but goodies: Softcell's "Tainted Love" and Tom Petty's "I Need to Know."

  • 4:48 Afternoon Love Definition

Students were asked to come up with their own definitions of love. The culminating activity of this special Valentine's Edition is to create a definition essay using a function, an example, and negation. I don't own the rights to the music to this one; I hope Pink doesn't mind. I put an endnote at the end of the film. Coincidentally, after using this song in the film, I found out that the choirs will be singing this song at the upcoming concert. I can't wait to hear that one.
